National Animal Cracker Day

PinExt National Animal Cracker Day

animal cracker 2 National Animal Cracker Day

It’s National Animal Cracker Day! Animal crackers were actually a British concoction. In the 1870s, these tasty treats were imported into the US. With their growing popularity, different cookie manufacturers began producing the bite size morsels in 1902. Perhaps the most recognizable animal cracker brand is the Barnum’s Animals. I absolutely loved these little boxes when I was a kid. Apparently, there are over 37 different animals that can possibly fill up your little red box.

In honor of National Animal Cracker Day, I challenge you to show your support. If you are feeling brave, or just plain boozy, reach inside an animal cracker box without looking. Pull out an animal cracker. Get that as your next tatt. I am totally kidding by the way, but I do know someone that now has a tiger animal cracker on the side of his abdomen. Just putting it out there. Milk anyone?

Throw Back #2: Beer, Nascar and Stilettos

Beer and NASCAR in stilettos

I went to a place called Show Me’s (the Midwest knockoff of Hooters) for dinner tonight. All I can say is that it is a lot skeezier than I imagined. In fact, I would say it does Hooters an injustice since it is such a poor imitation.  I planted myself at the bar, a seat down from a guy that looked cute from the doorway. Up close, it made me realize I needed to wear my glasses more often.Even though I did not intend to have any alcohol, I knew I would need a drink to survive the next 45 minutes of my life. I ordered dinner, and then tried to be discrete about my people watching by playing on my phone.

I noticed the locals had insanely thick country accents. If it were not for the hanging Missouri sign, I would have believed I was in Tennessee. They also had clothes to match their accents. I would definitely debate that in this case, the clothes were an accessory, not the accent.

As I ate my dinner, I found myself drinking beer and watching Nascar on the tv. I froze for a second when I realized this. Had I been living here so long that I have become a local? Drinking beer and Nascar?

Then I shifted in my seat and felt my stilettos bumping the bar stool. Nope, still had some city in me. Thank goodness for stilettos. I tabbed out, and I left Show Me’s thinking wow…what a great hole in the wall to pull writing inspiration from.

Even though I may not have become comfortable with any of the locals, I did leave thinking: There is nothing wrong with beer and Nascar in stilettos.

Throw Back #1: Night Life

PinExt Throw Back #1: Night Life

I love reminiscing. The best is when I read something I wrote years ago. Sometimes I giggle at my childishness, but other times I think wow, that wasn’t half bad. I decided I would post some of my old compositions here as part of my tribute to the past series icon smile Throw Back #1: Night Life Enjoy. Maybe you will be inspired to dig up your old blogs.

Night Life

So, I started my transition here about 6 months ago. In the last 6 months I have escaped this place in every which way I possibly could. I have taken numerous trips to Texas, Portland, Indy and Sin City. That wears on a girl’s body not to mention pocketbook. I realized I can’t consistently run away from where I live.

Tonight I thought I would take my first big leap into doing the hardest solo thing ever: going to a bar alone….I can do just about anything alone (incl. eating Valentines dinner at a restaurant full of couples alone- which I did one year), but going to a bar or club alone just seems extremely uncomfortable. I would rather go with a semi acquaintance then go by myself. Who knows what can happen to a girl if she goes alone?

I definitely miss the weekly Saturday night ritual I had in Dallas…

7 pm get dolled up

8 pm (usually 8:30 for me since I am a fashionably late person) dinner/ drinks/tapas

10 pm bar or club for the rest of the night…

I got a couple texts from people today that had not realized I officially moved here. They included invitations for all of the above. *sigh* I wrote back: “sorry I live in MO now”

So now, here it is….a couple hours later from my attempted leap, and I have just chickened out.
